In Chapter 155, the party learned that he had been a member of the Esoteric Knights of Evolvement who had been Seeded with Xhamen-Dor‘s Contagious Lore infestation (seemingly on a whim) by Lowls. He then accidentally Seeded the majority of the other members of the Knights, and became a recluse thereafter.
The party encountered him in his home in Abbey Green, where he begged them to end his life.
In Chapter 156, after Dabwick had no success with Remove Disease spells intended to ease his suffering, Grip did as the old shipwright asked and took his life.
