A friend of Skywin Freeling's first referenced in Chapter 37 as someone who occasionally has prophetic dreams. She had told Skywin that her trip up the Sellen River was going to be dangerous and that she needed to bring “friends” on her voyage.
A leather artisan based in Cassomir. Something of a recluse, despite producing the finest work around. A human woman of middle age who Dabwick knew of, but was not friendly with. Something made Dabwick keep their distance, perhaps the rumors about her dreams.
In Chapter 129, Dabwick recalled a significant conversation with Jaydove and Skywin, where Jaydove implored Dabs to take the trip north with Skywin, heavily implying Skywin would otherwise be in danger.
During the conversation, she hinted at having a suffered a great personal loss, and spoke of having nightly dreams of Desna leading her, in the form of a dove, through a massive forest in search of what she had lost long ago. She also indicated that the name she was currently using was not her given name, but one adopted by her to honor Desna in that form.
In Chapter 136, Skywin gave Dabwick a letter from Jaydove that had been written before they set sail, but which was to be delivered on the Night of the Pale. In it, she confessed that Skywin’s safety was not the real reason she had encouraged Dabwick to travel north, but that she did so for “purely selfish” reasons inspired by visions she had been given from Desna. She also revealed the names of Dabwick’s parents to them: Finn, who was dead, and Lilibet, who lived in Magnimar.
In Chapter 139, Dabwick secured Skywin’s promise that she would stand by them when they confronted Jaydove upon their return to Cassomir.
In Chapter 142, after joining up with Chester Bindlay in the Real World, Dabwick learned the truth about Jaydove: she had once been known as Jaylin and had been Chester’s wife 13 years previously when Chester first fell asleep and was found by the Stardust Augurs.
In Chapter 151, it was revealed that Chester and Jaydove took care of the party and Barnabus during the 67 days that they slept following their visit to the Mad Poet’s Oasis. Before the other party members woke, Dabwick confronted Jaydove about the deception and manipulation she employed while trying to enact what she believed to be Desna’s will. Jaydove apologized for the pain she had caused, and gave Dabwick the Swallowtail Bracers that had once belonged to her mother in gratitude for what they’d endured to reunite her with her husband.
In Chapter 160, Jaydove spoke with Dabwick in greater detail about her relationship with Desna. She explained that she had learned of Lilibet and Finn from Desna as part of her efforts to atone for her manipulation of Dabwick onto the Sellen Starling. In the end, Dabwick expressed to Jaydove that they no longer held a grudge against her.
In Chapter 168, Chester revealed to Dabwick that their daughter Nesia died during the many years he’d lain sleeping and that he and Jaydove were going to look at their situation with Persephone as the opportunity to be parents which they had been robbed of.
Before departing Cassomir in Chapter 171, Dabwick stopped by Jaydove and Chester’s one last time to say goodbye and extend their thanks.
