One of the gifts for the Mad Poet, discovered written in the margins of Men and Vultures: Denizens of the Darkened Depths and Dead Skies.
In Chapter 100, the party was able to determine that three of the books from Lowls' footlocker were of particular use in researching this gift: Atop the Valley’s Soul, The Falling Silk, and In Admiration of Keeping Pacts.
In Chapter 101, at the Forsaken Caravanserai, the party (aided by the Yellow King) completed the research into this gift and uncovered the following:
- Lowls learned that the Mad Poet has a deep, abiding interest in the soul—not necessarily in its journey or its destination, but as a commodity. And what better way to acknowledge that interest than a Night Hag’s heartstone? But it couldn’t be just any hag, and he tasked Thema with learning about significant hags. She uncovered the name Quaveandra, whose heartstone (according to legend) retains its magic for one month out of her possession, rather than one day.
- A register of extraplanar diplomats lists the name Quaveandra as an ambassador to the city of Dylath-Leen, a grim city of basalt and one of the Dreamlands’ most notorious havens for vice. According to reports, Quaveandra travels with a large retinue of retainers and is a known catalyst of intrigue in the Dylath-Leen court.
- Notes in Thema’s hand indicated that Vatticus uncovered the name of one of her favorite secret haunts: a drug den named named Xuzu. It sounds like the party decided to rope some of her political enemies into a deadly ambush there and, during the chaos the followed, the Triangle Man stole her heartstone right off of her.
- The pass phrase that would allow Dora to use the Dreamlands Excursion occult ritual to travel directly to Xuzu.
In Chapter 142, the party traveled to Xuzu, beginning their quest for the stone.
In Chapter 143, they located Quaveandra in the drug den Xuzu.
In Chapter 144, they made an arrangement with Quaveandra to identify and take out a member of her staff that had been trying to assassinate her, in exchange for her Heartstone.
