A calico cat with a flat face. A male, which is unusual for calicos. A ratter, believed at first to be named Luna, found on the Bloodwind. In Chapter 121, it leapt over to the Sellen Starling and proceeded to make its home there. For a time.
In Chapter 127, the party encountered the cat in the Dreamlands city of Arventon, where they learned his name was actually Pumpkin (apparently Vadrack called every cat Luna). He seemed to be able to speak any language and had the ability to step between the Real World and the Dream. He was following Vik (who he had thought of as a “hunting leader”), who he assumed had been on the hunt for rats.
In Chapter 130, the cats of Igguzqaiz recognized his name and seemed to regard him as a legendary figure among their kind.
In Chapter 135, Dabwick spoke with Pumpkin in the Real World, by means of a Speak with Animals spell. They learned that Pumpkin had walked every continent of the Dreamlands, sailed every sea, padded through every palace in Celephaïs, and had countless adventures in that mystical realm. He originally boarded the Bloodwind in Dylath-Leen, following a “great parade” of rats.
When asked about the Mad Poet, he strongly counseled Dabwick to never approach that man. When Pumpkin learned that the party was planning on traveling to his oasis, he indicated his intent to leave their company before that time, perhaps to disembark at Dylath-Leen. He also implored Dabwick to not visit Sarnath.
In Chapter 145, it was discovered that Pumpkin had never returned to the Starling after the party visited the Stardust Augurs.
In Chapter 175, Hadranna Ibren told Pandora and Dabwick that she met Pumpkin in a dream, where he stated that he regretted underestimating them and that the cats of Igguzqaiz now sang the party’s praises. He sent along a request that if the party were to cross the Eastern Desert again, to please bring him along.
