A nation located on the continent of Avistan. A violent, authoritarian theocracy.
Once one of the River Kingdoms until the land was conquered fifty years ago by Razmir, a vicious tyrant who claims to be a god. The whole country is entirely devoted to him and his gold-masked, identically dressed priests see to the day-to-day running of the country. Citizens are beaten down and submissive. Most of the priests are vicious sadists looking for an excuse to victimize them.
The country is not even 60 years old. In 4661, Razmir, who claims to be a living god raised to divinity by the Test of the Starstone, appeared in Xer and began his conquest. He murdered local leaders, conjured storms of fire upon communities that resisted his rule, and within a year had ripped a vast chunk of land from the River Kingdoms and made it his own. Since then, Razmiran has expanded its border on five separate occasions, each time at the expense of a neighboring River Kingdom or the country of Ustalav. The country has terrible relations with all other nations in the region and keeps its borders completely closed (with the slight exceptions of Xer and the capital of Thronestep).
Worship of Razmir is the mandatory state religion. All other faiths are outlawed, and their practitioners burned to death. Razmiran priests make up the bureaucracy, the police, the military, the judges, juries, and executioners of society here. They are all masked, they are all obeyed without question, and they are generally vicious sadists with a lust for power.
The populace is kept poor and uneducated. In addition to the tithes they are required to pay every week, they can be expected to be shaken down for additional tithes at any time.
Regular citizens are not allowed to buy or sell forge-made weapons, unless they are members of the army or a local church-sanctioned militia.
